CINEMA LUX was set up in 1993 to breathe life into Montmédy’s cinema. It is run by a voluntary association, entrusted with the running and management of the theatre by the town that owns it.
It is an art-house cinema.
Its main purpose is to offer a varied, top quality programme, while keeping ticket prices as low as possible. Its main concerns are to offer optimum screening conditions, satisfy a wide audience, and allow schools and educational facilities to include cinema as part of their teaching curriculum.
Currently, it organises at least 9 sessions a week with two films, at least one of which is classed as experimental or avant-garde. It is a unique offering in a rural setting.
The choice of films and operating the theatre are carried out in partnership with CRAVLOR (the Lorraine Audiovisual Regional Centre), whose main office is in Metz.
With over 150 members, around fifteen of which are active, they ensure sales of tickets and snacks, and it is growing all the time, as can be seen by the statistics: operational for 17 years, almost 120,000 entrance tickets have been sold for 1,500 films screened.
Montmédy’s Cinema Lux is the only permanent cinema theatre in the ‘Ciel de Meuse’ area (covering the Damvillers, Dun-sur-Meuse, Montmédy, Stenay and Spincourt cantons). It is one of only two cinemas classed as ‘Art-house’ in the Meuse region.
